Q-Card Company Receives EMVCo Mobile Type Approval Accreditation

SUNBURY, PA – Q-Card, a leading provider of testing services to the payments industry announced today that it has received accreditation by EMVCo of its contactless test bench for mobile phase two, which covers universal integrated circuit cards (UICC), secure element (SE) and host card emulation (HCE) technologies. The new type approval process includes level 1 digital and analog testing, interoperability testing, performance testing and multiple execution environment testing.

Interoperability testing requires that a contactless mobile payment-enabled device successfully function with a pool of EMVCo approved payment acceptance terminals. The testing includes using a high precision robot positioning system to ensure accuracy and that the mobile device under test successfully performs a transaction within a certain proximity around the terminal.

Performance testing requires that processing and transmission times of the mobile payment device meet industry standards by assessing the speed of the mobile device response time.

Multiple execution environment testing is also required for mobile payment devices that host numerous SEs and HCE interfaces to ensure all technologies in the payment device have been assessed. Payment devices eligible for certification include smartphones, tablets and wearable form factors.

Q-Card is among the few laboratories in the U.S. accredited by EMVCo to perform mobile payments testing for handset manufacturers. With this accreditation, Q-Card is able to provide device manufacturers with compliance testing of their handsets for mobile wallet applications. The growth of smart phone use and surge in the adoption of mobile payments has created a need for specific testing to ensure interoperability on payment networks. Conditions of Accreditation: EMVCo requires an interim proficiency audit to be successfully completed before the end of the validity period demonstrating the satisfactory resolution of the existing audit observations as an accreditation probation condition.
